CSHL is seeking an experienced web software developer to join the iPlant Collaborative project, a new NSF-funded initiative which seeks to develop an comprehensive national cyberinfrastructure which will unite researchers in every plant biology discipline—from those working at the microscopic level, such as molecular biologists, cellular biologists and geneticists, to those working on the ecosystem and planetary level—in partnership with computer scientists and engineers, information scientists, mathematicians and social scientists, in order to facilitate communication and collaboration across all of these disciplines to address questions of global importance and advance all of these fields.

Responsibilities:The applicant will interact with bioinformaticians and other members of the iPlant team to participate in the design and implementation of interfaces for the next generation of systems for organizing, analyzing and visualizing large-scale data sets in the fields of genomics, phylogenetics, developmental biology and physiology.

Qualifications:A successful candidate will have significant experience in web application development, including MVC interface models and frameworks. He or she should have a demonstrated understanding of object oriented programming principles, a solid foundation in database design principles and usage, and experience in web user interface design and implementation. We require knowledge of a high level language such as Perl, Ruby or Java, as well as the JavaScript web client programming language. Experience in AJAX development is a strong positive, as is familiarity with usability and regression testing of user interfaces. Proficiency with source code control systems and comfort in agile development environments is also strongly encouraged.

Salary and Benefits:The salary range for this position ranges between $70,000-$90,000, depending on level of experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
